Pedagogical Philosophy
I want to teach because I feel that there is a great need for confidence in representation of self to be cultivated in students. Art educators have a very unique opportunity to encourage and assist students in learning how to visually represent and express their personal experiences. Art classes were very beneficial to me throughout my grade and high school experience. I can specifically remember my mom and art teachers encouraging me in my artwork and I feel that without that encouragement, I may not have continued to pursue art. I feel that art is a great outlet for students and it gives students the opportunity to communicate their experiences, thoughts, and emotions visually.
One of the greatest and most important roles of an educator is to be a source of encouragement to students. I believe that positive leadership should be combined with the sharing of curriculum. I have found that it is important that the students feel heard when they share something about their creative process during class time. It has been through my personal life experiences with education, studio experiences and personal teaching experience that my pedagogical philosophy has formed and expanded. In whatever educational setting I find myself in in the future, I hope to always remain an encouraging, patient and helpful educator.
